The Summer of BUZZ
Free haircuts at CUT⚡️BUZZ Pop-Ups around Chicago, all Summer 2026.
I want to be a really good barber and cultivate the first impression you want to give people as they see you. As a really good barber, I want to participate as a valued member of my community.
For decades I built community around learning and education and training approaches with technology, internationally. I led open source work that became IEEE's first open standards, used by higher education institutions governments around the world, funded by the first Trump administration.
That work ended with the second Trump administration and literal chainsaws to OPM servers. That work is no longer valued.
So now I'm doing something people really value: a good, free haircut. Now that I've done two pop-ups, I feel a lot more confident about doing more of them.
I have at least three pop-ups coming up that are still in development. The following two pop-ups are locked-in 😄
Upcoming Free Cut Pop-Ups
Saturday, May 23 - 10am - 4pm @ Portage Park
Saturday, I JFDI'd my second pop-up at Portage Park, and once again put some smiles on people's faces. Adults light up at the idea of a free haircut. The kids (and the kids inside the adults) light up when I hand them the mirror and you can feel their joy as they take in their new look... not something they expected to be seeing or feeling when they got to the park.
Three fresh cuts, al fresco
I'll be at Portage Park again, this upcoming Saturday (May 23), this time from 10am until 4pm, as weather permits. This last weekend, I had clients waiting around for their cut and more were interested... just as I was packing up to take Norrin to his senior prom 😺
Thursday, May 28 - 7pm - 9pm @ Happy Day Tavern
I'll be joined by three of my classmates for this very exciting first collaboration with Happy Day Tavern. They have sweet drink and wing specials on Thursdays, and a whole back room to turn into a barbershop for the night. Free cuts. Come get some!
